Recently we had 2 guest speakers come to our morning meeting at Mastoris Diner in Bordentown, NJ.

Julie Borsky, a Volunteer Recruitment Specialist, with the American Red Cross, was our first guest speaker of 2020. She brought some American Red Cross "swag" and had us participate with a fun quiz that gave us some interesting facts we may or may not have known about the Red Cross. Those of us who got the answer correct or close enough got something. It was a great way to start the talk about The American Red Cross.

Here are some from online:
  • The Red Cross was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton. (we all got this one because Clara Barton lived in Bordentown, the first public schoolhouse is located right in our town.)
  • It is a humanitarian entity that provides approximately 45% of the nation's blood supply.
  • The organization is celebrated in March of each year. President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the proclamation declaring it in 1943.
  • The organization supports more than 1,000 organizations across the U.S.
  • A goal of having one person per American household trained in CPR and first aid.

Just this past Tuesday, we had the pleasure of having Anil Srivatsa speak. He started the Gift of Life Adventure

To find who he is and what drives him(see what I did there?) to spread the word about organ donation,  click and watch the video below.

Traveling all around the globe, Anil does this out of love, to show himself as an example of how he is doing better than ever when he donated his kidney. To break up myths and tell the facts about organ donation.

He also said in his talk with us, that if everyone could help one another, that there would be so much more love and charity in the world.

Anil was only asking for donations to keep him in gas money. We do a fun thing in our club at the end of each meeting, called Happy Dollars. Someone comes around and collects $1(or more) for each happy thought, words of encouragement, etc., as long as it's positive and happy. The money we collected went to Anil to help keep his gas tank filled.

Thank you, Julie and Anil for stopping by to share what you do and how people can help. Images in this post were done by Deirdre Ryan
